Engraving reads "John Hadfield Kennerdy died Dec. 23. 1833"
Hallmarks read that the ring was made in 1838, I wonder why this ring was engraved and made 5 years after John's death. Perhaps there were complications with the endowment, as it was customary for the payment of mourning jewelry to come from the deceased in their will. We will never know, but this family certainly chose a beautiful ring to commemorate their dearly departed.
